Tool carrier systems of the future

The digital transformation is increasingly moving machine engineering technology into a new realm. Where binary signals or manual inputs are still controlling the machine tools today, Industry 4.0 applications will be ensuring highly productive manufacturing processes tomorrow.

In this respect, perfect machine to machine communication and the use of numerous sensors in machine tools are critical. The aim is to receive, collect, and evaluate comprehensive data from the tools, tool holders, and turrets. Intelligent sensor networks are the key to success. Only in this way can products of first class quality be produced at maximum speed with high reliability and absolute precision.

At EMO 2019, we will show you the positive impact of Industry 4.0’s future on machine tools. SAUTER will answer the question of how edge computing can be sensibly used to exploit and analyze the increasing flood of production data. We describe solutions for the digital exchange of information between tool, tool turret, and machine tool and give an overview of crucial data, data evaluation, and data uses to increase manufacturing productivity.

As an expert for all rotating axes on machine tools, we are happy to advise you on our exhibition stand and help you on your way towards the digital transformation.

Powerful motor spindles: efficient turning and milling with ultimate precision

When challenging materials have to be efficiently machined on modern turning and milling centers, the powerful motor spindles from SAUTER come into play. The turning and milling spindles impress through their long service life, high drive power, and absolute torsional stiffness.

What is unique is a three-part Hirth coupling. The Hirth coupling holds the spindle exactly in position even at high torques. Hard and tough materials can thus be machined effectively. Also, the coupling absorbs the tremendous forces created during turning processes and relieves the spindle bearings extending bearing life by up to 50 percent.

Combined with a one or two-axle swivel unit, it is also possible to efficiently machine complex workpieces in 5 axes.

Your benefits at a glance

  • Hirth coupling for ultimate torsional stiffness and relief of the spindle bearings
  • Face contact monitoring system with sensor
  • Replaceable tool interface
  • Powerful with a torque of up to 450 Nm and a rotational speed of up to 18,000 min-1

Rotary tables for high production: SAUTER RT Torque and SAUTER RT Speed

Whether it is high torques or high rotational speeds – with the direct-driven rotary tables from SAUTER, high production machining centers achieve their full potential. The RT Torque and RT Speed systems are designed for high volume machining centers with impressive precision and stiffness.

Both the SAUTER RT Torque and the SAUTER RT Speed feature a rotary union supplying up to ten channels of media such as hydraulic oil, coolant or air. Thanks to a media interface integrated into the table top using plug-and-play, complex special solutions are a thing of the past.

When servicing is required, the rotary tables in the RT series are replaced as a compact cartridge unit within a few hours. Costly downtime is reduced to a minimum.

Your benefits at a glance

  • Rotary union with up to ten channels as standard
  • Integration of a media interface in the table top using plug-and-play
  • Option of hydraulic or mechanical clamping system for highest clamping torques
  • Fast changeover of components – rotary tables are fitted in cartridges

SAUTER Robofix®: short setup times due to automated tool change

SAUTER’s new innovative Robofix® interface enables tool turrets to be fitted with power-driven and static tools using less manpower. The patented direct drive in the tool turret takes care of unfastening tools that are no longer required and clamping new tools.

Both fully automatic and semi-automatic solutions are possible: new tools are either inserted by a robot or machine operator. Using Robofix® , the automation level at production facilities is increased, while the effort for replacing tools shrinks to a minimum. Machine tool change downtimes are reduced by up to 85 percent.

Your benefits at a glance

  • Automatic tool change by a robot system
  • Semi-automatic changeover possible
  • Driven and static tools unfastened and clamped by patented direct drive
  • 85 % shorter setup times
  • Face contact monitoring
  • High changeover accuracy
